A Simultaneous Equations Model of Fiscal Policy Interactions
نویسنده
چکیده
Existing studies of fiscal policy interactions are based on single equation models of either taxation or expenditures, without specifying the underlying social welfare function, without taking account of budget constraints and without allowing for cost differences between jurisdictions. Taking all this into account, we derive an extended version of the linear expenditure system (LES) with policy interaction effects. We use this system to simultaneously estimate interactions in both taxation and different spending categories among Dutch municipalities. Our interaction parameters tend to be higher than those estimated using conventional single equation models. JEL classification: C31, H71, H72

Investigating the Role of Monetary and Fiscal Policy Tools on Economic Growth Using Dynamic Simulation and Fuzzy Control Approach
In this study, a macro-economic model consisting of twelve behavioral equations and fourteen identity equations was estimated with the aim of investigating the effectiveness of monetary and fiscal policies set out in the fourth and fifth development plans. In the estimated model, the variables of development expenditures, current expenditures and tax revenues are used as fiscal policy tools and...
متن کاملEffects of Fiscal and Monetary Policies on the Iranian Economy: An Optimal Control Approach
This paper evaluates the interacted effects of the fiscal and monetary policies on the nominal and real macro-variables of the Iranian economy. Our analysis is thus based on the optimal control theory by which the optimal path of the control variables including monetary and fiscal tools are determined over the period 1963-2006. We also use a macro-econometric model in form of a simultaneous equ...
متن کاملThe Impact of Fiscal Policy on Macroeconomic Variables: New Evidence from a DSGE Model
The purpose of this article is to analyze the macroeconomic impacts of fiscal policy in Iran using a new-Keynesian Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium (DSGE) model. The model takes into account distortionary taxations on wage, dividend, and consumption, while government expenditures are broken down into consumption of goods and services, and investment. The model is calibrated for Iran based...
متن کاملHas Integration Promoted Business Cycle Synchronization in the Enlarged EU?
This paper examines whether European integration, manifesting itself in increased trade and FDI linkages, new specializations and economic policy coordination, contributed to the synchronization of business cycles in the enlarged EU. We estimate the effects on bilateral growth rate correlations in 1995-2008 in a simultaneous equations model which permits to model endogenous relationships and un...
متن کاملMonetary and Fiscal Policy Interaction in Iran: A Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium Approach
Achieving the goals of price stability, sustainable economic growth, and the improvement of many economic variables require coordination between the monetary and financial authorities. In this study, a new modified Keynesian stochastic dynamic equilibrium general equilibrium model is introduced for Iran and in the framework of game theory, optimal policy of fiscal and monetary authorities are d...
